Chazen Museum of Art Lecture by Dr. Robin L. Thomas, Associate Professor, Department of Art History (The Pennsylvania State University).
Join us for “Francesco de Mura and Bourbon Naples,” a lecture by Robin L. Thomas, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Department of Art History, The Pennsylvania State University. Francesco de Mura’s life and art were inextricably linked to the fate of his native city of Naples. Fortunately he lived during one of its periods of greatest cultural florescence, when king Charles of Bourbon (reigned 1734–59) spurred growth in the arts. This lecture will explore the ways in which de Mura played a leading role in the royal effort to remake Naples into a modern capital. Chazen Auditorium. Held in conjunction with the exhibition, In the Light of Naples: The Art of Francesco de Mura.
