Center for Early Modern Studies

College of Letters & Science

Welcome!

The Center for Early Modern Studies' mission is to encourage innovative research and foster lively dialogue and debate across a wide range of disciplines with a special focus on the early modern period (XV-XVIII centuries). The UW-Madison CEMS is an RSA-affiliated organization.

The director during the 2017-18 academic year is Professor Sabine Moedersheim (German/Nordic/Slavic).

If you would be interested in receiving email alerts from the Center for Early Modern Studies, send an email to Professor Moedersheim to be added to the email list.

The Graduate Early Modern Student Society (GEMSS) is a newly formed and officially registered student organization for all graduates interested in the study of early modernity.  Entering its second year of programming, the group looks forward to meeting monthly and hosting faculty lectures, roundtables, and informal gatherings throughout 2017-2018.  For more information and to get involved, email CEMS Project Assistant, Katherine M. Robiadek.
